My Story

Hi, I’m Rachel! I grew up always having a family dog and loved having a furry companion from a young age. But becoming a dog mom as an adult with my little Patterdale Terrier, Niska, was a whole new experience. The love I had to give felt endless, and I wanted to understand everything she needed to thrive. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Higher Education, I realized that the same curiosity and observation skills I’ve used to understand people could also be applied to understanding dogs. What I discovered? Dogs have their own little worlds, personalities, and needs—and exploring dog psychology has taught me how to create happy, confident spaces for them (and for their humans too!).

Meet Niska

Niska is my 5-year-old Patterdale Terrier, my tiny adventure buddy, and my ultimate product tester. At 17 pounds, she’s the perfect mix of cuddles, curiosity, and boundless energy. Being her human has taught me that raising a happy dog isn’t just about love—it’s about understanding them, meeting their needs, and giving them the tools to thrive. Watching Niska’s confidence grow has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

The Process

Exuberant Paws was born because I wanted dog gear that actually worked for active pups, not just looked cute. I spent countless hours sketching, crocheting, testing, and reworking designs—ultimately creating the harness with a tiny backpack that could survive Niska’s adventures. Every product is thoughtfully designed, rigorously tested, and made to help your dog feel safe, comfortable, and happy—because a confident dog makes life more joyful for everyone.
